PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE By Marta Pol Rigau
The program of performances, curated by Marta Pol Rigau, is part of the program of activities parallel to the exhibition "Art and action. Between the performance and the object, 1949-1979", which is currently being presented at the Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona (MACBA).
This program has been conceived to show what has been the genesis and development of action art in Spain, based on the proposals made during the sixties, with the emergence of Zaj in the international artistic context, but also with the paratheatrical contributions of figures such as Joan Brossa. It then goes through a review of the decade of the seventies, both in Catalonia and in Spain, and the substantial changes that affected performance from the eighties onwards, with the incorporation of new technological means, are glimpsed.
The reason for choosing this time frame has been conditioned by the fact that the exhibition shows what happened in the field of action art from 1949 to 1979.
The thesis has been structured based on three ways of experimentation such as: music, poetry and theatricality. These translate into: action-concert, poetry-action and staging. It should be borne in mind that, each separately or combined with each other, they give us different answers, according to the aesthetic, political, economic and social parameters of the moment.
The cycle will be developed over three sessions that in some way correspond to three clearly differentiated stages of the presupposition and objectives of the art of action.
