Mireia Coromina «Soak»

“I work in my garden, I take care of my boat, that is, of the canvas I am finishing, like a good worker, wishing for simple things...” Dalí

The action-installation I present is based on the images evoked by Dalí’s autobiographical texts, where transcending tangible reality is achieved through the direct connection between creation, the landscape, and the surroundings of the Portlligat House.

I use fabric as a material, establishing a direct relationship with the canvas of his paintings, with the sails of the boats present at the site, with the cloths used to gather olives, or with fishing nets. It is a white fabric with the same dimensions as Dalí’s painting The Madonna of Portlligat (1950), where Gala transforms into the Madonna. This fabric also evokes the Madonna’s dress and the folded cloth over the altar depicted in the painting.

The fabric will be immersed in the sea at Portlligat to record the imprint of the place through direct contact between the two surfaces. The canvas, the cloth, the net, and the fabric function as a surface that records the Portlligat landscape as a matrix:“I cannot separate myself from this sky, from this sea, from these rocks; I am bound forever to Portlligat, where I have defined all my most sincere truths and my roots.”The place thus becomes both the surface and the material of the artistic practice.
